Welcome to GasAudio.net.

Our business is providing service and support for not only GAS and Sumo products but many of the classic amps and preamps produced throughout the high-ends formative years.

Our knowledge and experience with the many designs and products produced by James Bongiorno extends back to before GAS was born and is our specialty and primary focus, but there are many components that have passed the test of time and warrant the time and money needed to maintain their proper operation; if only as a reference point to the past and with some as a benchmark for current designs.

Our business started as an audio repair shop in the mid 70's.  In it's prime it held Factory Authorized Service Center status for over 30 audio brands.  By the mid 80's we had full transitioned to servicing and rebuilding only serious audio components and specializing in GAS and later Sumo products. During GAS and Sumo's lifetimes we were factory authorized service center for both companies.  Service center status provided access to factory level technology and support services and to develop an in-depth familiarity with the products that allows us to properly service them for you today.

While evaluating whether or not to return to this business a consistent observation was that getting a classic amp or preamp serviced has been a gamble; prices were high, reliability was spotty and sonic results were variable.  Which is a shame because most of the classic designs follow the laws of physics and to become a classic must have been reasonably well designed.  Returning a component to proper operation is not based on smoke and mirrors but on understanding the technology and the parts characteristics and the context in which they are used.

Repairs and Service:  Properly servicing classic components requires: first knowing the equipment electronically and spending the time to get to the root of the problem.  The second important step is to spend the time to properly clean/calibrate the gear to verify proper operation as a whole and to finish by burn-in in and listening to verify all is functioning properly.

Let's face it, this is not a high volume process and taking the time to burn-in and listen, just as you will when you unpack the piece on it's return, we consider to be part of the work.  It is also what allows us to provide a 1 year warranty on the work we do.

Upgrades:  Our knowledge and experience of the GAS/Sumo gear allows us to offer all levels of improvements from simple capacitor or connector replacements through circuit refinements applying the best of audio circuit refinements developed over the past 30 years.  We know the equipment well enough to be able to rebuild and restore the products to be directly comparable to today's better components.   As this work is labor intensive and audiophile parts are not inexpensive, the varying levels of this work can be discussed and estimates provided based on your priorities and expectations.

Summary:  The services we provide run from thorough repairs to complete restorations. Our repairs not only troubleshoot and resolve the obvious problem, but remove the effects of age. We resolve known design or age-related issues before they become a problem. We really do know this equipment; we know when it's working properly and when it sounds like the GAS gear that you're familiar with. Returning it to proper operation is the goal, with a 1 year guarantee on the work performed.
